The organizer reserves the right to change the order of the discussions. |
The war in Ukraine has dramatically changed our view of the energy supply chain and the overall energy security of Europe. Winter is coming and politicians must urgently respond to the problem of high energy prices and the reliability of energy supplies. The European Commission's plan REPowerEU aims to reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels and accelerate the green transition, in which renewable energy plays a major role. In this discussion on energy policy, we will talk about how to fulfill the REPowerEU in Slovakia, how we can replace fossil fuels with RES and how RES can contribute to increasing Slovakia's energy security. We will also not leave out other topics such as the readiness of states for the green transition and also the issue of obstacles that we have to deal with.
Solar photovoltaics has become the world's dominant renewable energy technology according to installed capacity, and in the next 10 years, its share will continue to grow rapidly. In this section, you will learn what are the current technological trends that are being promoted in the field of roof and ground installations and what innovative solutions can be used in the conditions of the Slovak Republic. Experts will give lectures in the section, and participants will be able to ask about their opinions and experiences.
Energy storage and the way they are used will play a significant role in the new European electricity market design. This is an industry with great growth potential, which will depend on technological innovation, advanced business models, including flexibility aggregation, and the increasing need to integrate variable types of RES into electricity systems. In this section, you will learn, among other things, the current trends and examples of good practices in using these technologies and which innovations have the greatest potential for use in commercial operations.
In April 2021, the Slovak Ministry of Economy, the Slovak Transmission System Operator and Distribution System Operators agreed to release more than 7-year-long stop status for connecting larger resources to the network. Free capacity was used up within a few months. In the panel discussion, we will ask the representatives of TSO and DSO their point of view on the question of what are the bottlenecks for the further development of the electricity system regarding the integration of RES and what is the importance of smart grid solutions for increasing the integration of RES. We will also welcome a foreign expert on network development in the sections.
What is the future of wind energy in Slovakia? We will present the results of the latest study of the technical potential of wind energy use in Slovakia and the study of obstacles to its development. In the section, we will continue to look for answers to the questions of which business models of electricity sales are best for RES projects in Slovakia, and what are the opportunities and threats for the development of RES and energy markets.
The ongoing energy crisis caused by natural gas shortages and extremely high electricity prices is triggering a broad debate about what is happening in electricity markets and how these markets actually work. In most of the EU member states, the process of implementing the package of European legislation "Clean Energy Package" is currently underway, the result of which will be a new design of the electricity market. Electricity produced from renewable sources and new business sources that use this electricity in a new and wider way will play a significant role here. In this program, we invited experts in electricity trading and supply to discuss together what is happening in the markets, what the new market design will look like, what opportunities it brings for renewable electricity and what producers and investors should know when preparing projects RES.
Greater use of RES can be considered a necessary requirement to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. What role will RES play on this path and what measures need to be taken into action to make the most of their potential for decarbonization? What should we change in our national energy and climate policy? We will discuss these and other questions with respected professionals.
Energy communities are one of the tools for the decentralization and democratization of energy. Energy communities are also a way to ensure affordable and sustainable energy for all consumers. The rising energy prices and the uncertainty of energy supply contribute to the fact that more and more municipalities and residents are looking for ways to secure energy for households and local factories. However, there are still many barriers and unanswered questions about the functioning of energy communities in Slovakia. We do not have set legislation or financial mechanisms yet. In this section, we will talk about where we can gain inspiration from other countries and what Slovakia needs to do to finally accelerate the development of energy communities.
The President will not attend the conference in person, but will greet the participants via video greeting.
We will add more speakers soon...
